Doris Hawkins

Doris W. Hawkins, 85, died Wednesday, May 16, 2018, at her home in Bridgewater. Born in Philadelphia she was the daughter of Harry and Edna Adams. Doris grew up in Philadelphia and was a graduate of John Bartram High School. In 1952 Doris went on a blind date with John Hawkins. They fell in love, and married in 1954. After marrying, they lived in Plainfield for a short time before settling in Bridgewater in 1964. Together they had three sons. Doris was a dedicated stay at home mom, her 25 years career as an administrative assistant in the Rutgers University library system began after her sons went off to college. Doris’s family was her priority; whether it was cheering her sons on at countless sporting events, visiting with her mom and sisters, or family vacations in Ocean City, Doris was happiest with her family. She and her husband were also very active within their church. Life-long members of The Presbyterian Church in Bound Brook, Doris was a member of the Caring Ministry. Visiting with the sick and elderly, Doris enjoyed sharing her time and company with others. Doris was predeceased by her husband John and son Mark. She leaves behind her sons, Scott Hawkins of Bridgewater and Neil Hawkins and his wife, Janet of Whitehouse Station, her daughter in law, Karen Spinda Hawkins of Raritan; nine grandchildren, two great grandchildren, and her sisters Phyllis Syms and Ruth Sommers. A memorial service for both Doris and John will be 11:00 AM, Monday, June 11, 2018 at The Presbyterian Church, 409 Mountain Avenue, Bound Brook, followed by inurnment of ashes at Bound Brook Cemetery.
