Doris Ackerman

Doris Ackerman of Bound Brook passed away peacefully with her loving family by her side on July 30, 2024.

Born and raised in Staten Island, New York, Doris was the daughter of Alfred H. and Eva (Olcese) Pellegrini. An honor graduate of New Dorp High School, she was a secretary prior to her marriage to Robert M. Ackerman in 1956. She is survived by her daughter Dorrie, son Robert, her sister Elaine Peterson, and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband of 35 years, she was predeceased by her brother Alfred L. Pellegrini and sister Joan McKendry.

As a longtime resident of Bound Brook and a communicant of St. Joseph Church, she was active in several community organizations as a dedicated volunteer. For her many roles in the parish, including arranging flowers weekly for over 40 years, she was honored with the Regina Nostra medal from the Diocese of Metuchen. In addition, she was a former president and active member of the Bound Brook Garden Club and also served for years as an accredited national flower show judge. In her prime, she was an enthusiastic golfer and quick-moving doubles tennis player.

Doris was a devoted daughter, a loving wife and mother, a cherished sister and aunt, and a loyal, dear friend to many. She will be remembered for her quick easy wit, her artistic flair, her love of gardening and flowers, her eloquent way with words, and her generosity of heart and spirit.

Friends and family may visit St. Joseph's Church on Mountain Avenue, Bound Brook, NJ on Tuesday, August 6, 2024 from 10 to 10:30 a.m. A Funeral Mass will follow at 10:30 a.m. with burial to follow at Bound Brook Cemetery, Bound Brook, New Jersey.
