Donald H. Weigand, 86, died Friday, October 20, 2017, peacefully at his home in Martinsville. Born in High Bridge, he was the son of Henry and Ila Mae (Apgar) Weigand. Donald was a graduate of High Bridge High School, class of 1950, and Churchman’s Business College, class of 1952. In 1951, he spent a brief period of time playing minor league baseball with the Cordele Athletics in Georgia. His early business career included employment as a salesman for Dixie Cup. He then began his career in banking as Executive Vice President and Manager of Middlesex Savings & Loan, and the Secretary of Central Federal Savings & Loan in Plainfield. In 1967, he began working for the Home Savings and Loan Association in Dunellen, rising to president of the institution. In 1968, he and his wife married and settled in Martinsville to begin raising their family. In 1982, Home Savings & Loan merged with Summit Federal Savings & Loan Association. Donald retired in 1996 as the executive vice president and treasurer of Summit Federal Savings. He was a member of the New Jersey Savings & Loan League, and the Washington Campground Association. Throughout his life, he enjoyed fishing and the outdoors, traveling often with family and friends to Montana. Donald could most often be found playing golf, a hobby he cherished. He regularly participated in local senior tournaments and proudly made a hole-in-one at one of his favorite local courses. Donald leaves behind his loving wife, June; his son Alan; daughter, Karin E. Lynch; and his beloved grandchildren, Caitrin and James Lynch. Funeral Services will be 2:00 P.M. Saturday, November 4, at the United Methodist Church of Bound Brook, 150 West Union Avenue, Bound brook, New Jersey 08805. Cremation was private. Memorial donations may be made to the Martinsville Rescue Squad or the American Cancer Society.
