David B. Haber, 88, passed away peacefully January 23, 2016, at Bridgeway Care Center, Bridgewater. Born May 30, 1927, in Manhattan, he was the son of Edward C. and Fanny Young Haber. He resided in Somerville most of his life, moving to Bridgewater 10 years ago. He was a United States Navy veteran of World War II. Dave opened the first of three locations of Dave’s Men’s & Boys’ Shop in 1952, and was a haberdasher for fifty-three years, retiring in 2005. He was known for the personal service he gave to his customers. Everyone who came into the store became his friend. He had lifelong customers, often three generations of the same family. He catered to Boy Scouts, and maintained a one stop shop for big and tall sizes, including public service uniforms and custom tailoring. He was a competitive racquetball player and an avid runner. He accumulated many trophies and medals. He was a member of the Manville Chamber of Commerce. Dave is survived by his daughters, Barbara and her husband Robert, Jr., Hendricks of Bridgewater, Frances and her husband Douglas Freeman of Greensboro, North Carolina, and his five beloved grandchildren, Lauren, Megan, and Daniel Hendricks, Jonathan and Melissa Freeman. Funeral services will be 10:00 A.M. Wednesday, January 27, at the funeral home, with Rabbi Jack Kramer officiating. Interment will be Temple Shalom Cemetery, Bridgewater. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Bridgeway Care Center, 270 NJ Rt. 28, Bridgewater, NJ 08807.
