Daniel Picasso, 86
Daniel Picasso was born in the Flatbush section of Brooklyn, New York on 10 November, 1937, the only son of Antonio and Lena Picasso. He was graduated from Erasmus Hall High School in Brooklyn in 1955, and he earned both a Bachelor of Science in Economics/Finance from New York University in 1961, and a Master of Arts in Social Psychology from the New School for Social Research in 1964. He studied for his doctorate in psychology in the 1970s at the Stevens Institute of Technology. At NYU he was a brother of Sigma Phi Epsilon, New York Gamma chapter. He served his country in the United States Army and the United States Army Reserve, earning an Army Expert Sharpshooter Badge. He taught introductory macroeconomics and social psychology as an adjunct professor at Fairleigh Dickinson University.
Daniel worked for Bell Telephone Laboratories/AT&T/Bellcore as a financial district manager from 1964 until his retirement in 1993. For more than thirty years in retirement, he enjoyed his numerous woodworking and household management projects, building furniture, perfecting his legendary abilities in the kitchen, and furthering his knowledge of the Italian language and literature in continuing education courses at Princeton University. He was very proud that he was one of the few surviving fluent speakers of the “zeneise” Ligurian dialect of his Piemonte, Genoese heritage. Among his other cherished loves was a long line of cats to whom he was especially devoted, including little “Gio.”
Daniel is survived by his wife of forty years, Phyllis Picasso, his daughter, Renée Picasso Anderson (husband John), his son Paul Picasso, their mother Marisa Briar, stepson Dr. Lee Fratantuono, grandchildren Alexandra and Michael Anderson and Maria and Andrew Picasso, an extended family in the United States and in Italy, and his friend and work partner Murph.
