Cyril W. Taylor

Cyril William Taylor 21 April 1933 – 23 February 2021 Cyril W. Taylor, age 87, of Warren, died Tuesday at RWJB Hospital in Somerville after a long illness. Born in Liverpool, England, he was the third child of the late William V. Taylor and Elsie Taylor (Lambert). He was a loving husband and devoted father and grandfather who had many interests and stories to tell. He was able to talk to anyone and they would be charmed. He was a staunch Liverpool Football Club fan who loved nothing better than to watch a good game. An avid reader, amateur astronomer, he enjoyed multiple daily crosswords. Loved to read a good book, challenge you to a game of cribbage, and feed the birds. 1954-1956 he served in the Royal Army Pay Corps at Devizes, Wiltshire, England and attained the rank of sergeant while a training instructor for new recruits. While living in Bermuda with his parents, he joined Furness, Withy & Co. and the British Merchant Navy. He served on many ships during his seven years at sea, the first was Fort Townshend of the Furness West Indies line, and made five trips around the world as purser on the Cingalese Prince. After leaving Furness Withy, he was an inspector for the Ribble bus company in Southport, England, before joining Cooperheat, preheat and stress relieving engineers, which brought him to the US in 1969. He served as an auxiliary Police Officer in Warren before becoming a Special Police Officer in both Warren, and Long Hill Township for many years. He joined Boy Scout Troop 28 and was their Scoutmaster for over twenty years, making many trips to Sabattis scout camp in New York. He is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Carole E., daughter Lynne D., sons Graham W. (Janith), Neil M. (Lorna), Colin J. (Stacey) and grandchildren Morgan, Ashley, Melissa, and Emma. Besides his parents, he is predeceased by his sister Doreen E. Taylor and brother Vernon D. Taylor.
