William "Bill" Ludwig, 88, died peacefully at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital – Somerset on Thursday, February 16, 2023. Born in New Brunswick, he was the son of William and Genevieve (Bobeck) Ludwig. Bill grew up in South Bound Brook and was a graduate of Bound Brook High School, class of 1952. Bill enlisted in the Air Force in 1955, accepting a commission in 1956. He served in the Air Force until 1968. He completed numerous survival courses and was the recipient of medals, commendations, and awards for his time in Vietnam. He retired from the Air Force Reserves as a Lieutenant Colonel in 1994. While in the service he obtained his Associate degree and went on to obtain his bachelor’s degree from Rutgers University and had worked for Mack Trucks in Bridgewater for many years. Bill spent much of his summers in Ocean Beach before becoming a permanent resident of Ocean Beach 2 and 3. He enjoyed sailing and walking his beloved dog, Niele-Kamalani along the beach. He enjoyed traveling as well – and Hawaii was his favorite vacation spot.
Bill was predeceased by his son, Christopher in 1990 and his sister Beverly Hudock in 2011. He leaves behind his daughters Cynthia Regner, and her husband Michael of Lavallette; Valerie Boone of Nazareth PA.; and Kathleen Gulmantovicz and her husband, Wayne of Piscataway; his brother James Ludwig of Lavallette; seven grandchildren Shannon, Jessica, Christopher, Stephanie, Katelyn, Natalie, and Jacob; six great grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; and his pup, Niele-Kamalani.
Gathering with the family will be 2:00 – 4:00 PM, Sunday February 26, 2023, at Hagan-Chamberlain Funeral Home, 225 Mountain Avenue, Bound Brook, NJ 08805 and on Monday, February 27th at Noon, with Military Honors concluding services at 1:00 PM. Cremation was private. Burial at Brigadier General William C. Doyle Veteran’s Memorial Cemetery will take place at a later date.
