Benjamin William Barreiro

Benjamin William Barreiro, 35, of Branchburg, died peacefully on June 16, 2021, in Pennsylvania on a hiking expedition after reaching the halfway point on the Appalachian trail. Born in Elizabeth, NJ to Deborah Kalhauge and Keith Barreiro, he resided most of his life in Branchburg, New Jersey. Growing up, Ben was active in Branchburg Recreational Sports including soccer, basketball, baseball and wrestling. He is a 2004 graduate of Somerville High School where he was the freshman homecoming king. Some of the fondest memories he held dear were the ones made on camping trips with the Branchburg families who traveled together and enjoyed the time spent together. Ben stayed relative with the technological advances made and was able to build and set up some of the most complicated computer systems. He enjoyed playing poker and sports betting and prior to the pandemic worked at the Hard Rock Casino in Atlantic City. After leaving Atlantic City in March, Ben embarked on a hiking expedition to complete the Appalachian Trail beginning to end. He spent his last days seeing some of the most beautiful sights our country has to offer. Ben crossed the halfway point on Sunday. He was preceded in death by his beloved mother Debbie in 2009. Surviving are his father, Keith Joseph Barreiro and wife Jeannie, his loving siblings, Keith (K.J.) Barreiro, Domenick Distano and wife Bianca, Donna Distano, and Nicholas Distano and wife Rita, his cherished nieces and nephews, his aunts, uncles, cousins, extended family, and lifelong friends. Memorial visitation will be held from 6:00 to 8:00pm on Tuesday, June 22, 2021 at Hagan-Chamberlain Funeral Home, 225 Mountain Avenue, Bound Brook.
