Barbara Patullo

June 14, 1935 — November 2, 2024

Barbara June (Velcheck) Patullo, age 89, peacefully departed this life at her home in Bridgewater on November 2, 2024, with her cherished family by her side.

Barbara is survived by her family, including her beloved brother Robert Velcheck, cherished sons, Daniel Jr. (Carol), and Frank C. (Kelly) and four adored grandchildren Rebecca (Daniel), Kristyanne, Frank, and Tara, great grandson Nicholas, and several nieces and nephews.

Barbara grew up in Bound Brook where she graduated from Bound Brook High School and met her husband Daniel. Barbara devoted her life to nurturing those around her as a wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. Her greatest priority was the well being of others, ensuring that everyone was well taken care of and, most importantly, well fed. If you weren’t paying attention at dinner, another scoop of pasta appeared on your plate. One always left her house with leftovers, cookies, or some other kind of treat.

Caring for others seamlessly blended into Barbara's professional journey. From a young age, she dreamed of becoming a nurse. Barbara graduated from nursing school in 1973 with a LPN degree from Somerset County Community College (renamed Raritan Valley Community College). Barbara started her career at Somerset Medical Center (now known as Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital). Barbara advanced in the nursing field and obtained her Bachelor of Science in nursing (BSN) in 1978. Barbara then joined the Family Practice Center affiliated with Somerset Medical Center and eventually left to work in a private practice in Manville.  After leaving the private practice, she joined Johnson & Johnson to explore other facets of nursing including working at Ortho Pharmaceuticals, Ethicon, and finally retiring from Janssen Pharmaceuticals in Titusville.

Barbara never stepped away from her true calling and passion as a nurse. She ensured her family received the care they needed, gave advice, and wrapped them in warmth showing them just how much they were loved. Her nurturing spirit brought a sense of safety and comfort into their lives reminding them that they could always rely on her.

Barbara lived an adventurous life filled with extensive travel. Highlights include a 1972 family road trip to Alaska, globetrotting in the 1980's to Africa, Asia, and Europe. Her last trip with husband Daniel was to Bora Bora in 2011. After Daniel’s passing, she continued to travel with granddaughter Kristy on cruises, visited San Francisco and Denver, and traveled to Hawaii. Barbara embraced life fully and this is reflected in her many passport stamps.

On November 3, 2011, Barbara's husband, Daniel S. Patullo, passed away. Barbara and Daniel enjoyed 55 years of marriage and were the foundation that held the Patullo family together, creating cherished memories during family vacations, holiday traditions, and weekly Sunday dinners. The legacy that Barbara and Daniel built will forever remain in the hearts of their family. Those left behind find peace in the knowledge that Daniel and Barbara are now reunited.

Barbara's life was a beautiful testament to her nurturing spirit which shone brightly in both her career and personal life. She dedicated herself to caring for others, leaving behind a legacy filled with love and compassion. Her warmth touched the lives of her family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing her. Barbara will be deeply missed, but her memory will forever be cherished in the hearts of those who loved her.
