Anna Pietruszewski Carr passed away on Wednesday, April 22, 2015, at the age of 95, at Raritan Health & Extended Care Center, Raritan. She was born in Mahanoy City, Pennsylvani, on April 12, 1920. Anna was preceded in death by her sisters Helen and Josephine, and her brothers Stan and Joe. She and her husband, Charles P. Carr, moved to Bound Brook in 1950. Together they raised three children, Charles, Ann, and Bill, with support, love, and encouragement. Following the passing of her beloved husband, Charles, in 1978, Anna retired from Shaffer Products, Middlesex, and began a new phase in her life. She obtained her driver’s license at the age of sixty, joined a local bowling league, and traveled across the country to the annual tournaments. Through her church, Anna volunteered by providing meals and clothing for the homeless, visiting the homebound, and staffing the church festivals. She was an active member of Our Lady of Mount Virgin Seniors — planning day trips as well as extended bus tours throughout the country and into Canada. With the help of her many dear friends, Anna organized picnics, luncheons, entertainment, a book exchange club, and fundraising activities. The countless volunteer hours she spent at the local Group Home and at the Green Brook Regional Developmental Center, brought her immense joy. A local newspaper published an extensive article on Anna and her special friend, with happiness and joy shining on their faces. Over the years Anna’s daily joy came from time spent with family and friends, reading, her pets, Penny and Skinny, making favorite childhood dishes, and baking her holiday breads. She loved traveling to her children’s homes in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, and Long Beach, California. She was proud that she attended every Grand Parents Day at her granddaughter Courtney’s school in Baton Rouge. Anna was loved by and will be missed by her children, Charles and Ann, her daughter-in-law, Flo Carr, her beloved granddaughter, Courtney, her great grandchildren, Stevie and Autumn, and their father Steven Segura. Funeral services will be 8:45 A.M. Tuesday, April 28, at the funeral home, followed by a 9:30 A.M. Funeral Mass at Our Lady of Mt. Virgin Church, Middlesex. Interment will be at Resurrection Burial Park, Piscataway. Friends will be received at the funeral home 2:00 - 4:00 and 7:00 - 9:00 P.M. Monday. Memorial donations may be made to the National Kidney Foundation of Louisiana Inc., 8200 Hampson Street, Suite 425, New Orleans, Louisiana 70118 ( donations@kidneyla.org ), in memory of her beloved son, Bill Carr, who preceded her in death.
