Angel R Bermontiz Lopez

Angel R. Bermontiz Lopez, 81, passed away peacefully on Friday, April 21, 2023, at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital, New Brunswick. Born in Puerto Rico, Angel was the son of Francisco Bermontiz and Guadelupe Lopez. Angel loved life and being in love, in his early years he would stand in the corner store of his hometown where a young woman caught his eye. He serenaded her with love songs from a jukebox (La Bellonera) until he won her over. He served in the US Army from 1960-1962 and continued being active under the Army reserve until 1966. Shortly after his honorable discharge he married the love of his life in 1965 in Newark NJ. They eventually settled in Bound Brook where they raised their four daughters Maridza, Norma, Noemi and Wanda. Angel worked for many years at the Wrigley Gum Factory in Edison, and after his retirement, he and his wife Santa returned to their beloved island of Puerto Rico. They later returned to New Jersey to spend their days closer to their children. Angel enjoyed fishing, gardening, playing dominos, baseball and enjoyed watching boxing. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather whose absence will be felt by all who knew and loved him.

Angel is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Santa; his daughters Maridza (Audeliz) Nieves; Norma (Jose) Rios; Noemi (Marcus) Turiello; and Wanda Bermontiz; his grandchildren Jacqueline, Christina, Yesenia, David, Gwen, Marissa, Daniel and Madeline and his great grandson Benjamin.

Gathering with the family will be 5:00 - 9:00 PM, Wednesday, April 26, 2023, at Hagan-Chamberlain Funeral Home, 225 Mountain Ave., in Bound Brook. Entombment will follow at a later date at San Sebastian Memorial in Puerto Rico. In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made to https://www.alz.org in Angel’s name.
